Our Board and Structure

The Cataraqui Cemetery

For over 160 years, Cataraqui Cemetery has been continuously servicing the needs of the greater Kingston area.  To this day, the Cemetery remains active in offering interment options, cremation services and memorialization.

The day to day operations of the Cemetery are attentively administered by a full time professional and passionate staff.  The Cataraqui Cemetery Board of Trustees is ultimately accountable for all aspects of the Cemetery through the delegation of duties and responsibilities to the General Manager.  With direction received from The By-Laws of The Cataraqui Cemetery and the Ontario Cemeteries Act, the General Manager, the management team and staff offer the services of the Cemetery to the public and Interment Rights Holders.  The Interment Rights Holders are assured that all the revenue generated and received by the not for profit Cemetery is responsibly managed and directed back into the charitable public Cemetery.

The Board of Trustees of The Cataraqui Cemetery consists of five volunteer Interment Rights Holders (members) that are nominated by their peers in advance of their election at the Annual General Meeting of Interment Rights Holders.  Democratically elected by their peers attending the Annual General Meeting, the Trustees of the Board are trusted with the responsibility of guiding the Cemetery in all it's required corporate, financial and legal decisions as well as the care & maintenance obligations.  The Trustees of the Board report to the Interment Rights Holders at the Cemetery’s Annual General Meeting.

The Cataraqui Cemetery Advisory Board is a group on volunteers that aid the Trustees and management team in guiding the Cemetery’s actions, responsibilities, events and efforts.  The Advisory Board consists of individuals that have demonstrated an interest in the well being of the cemetery and are willing to regularly volunteer their time and experience.  Advisors are not required to be Interment Rights Holders and are invited by the Board of Trustees.  Many of the advisors serve on committees and have an interest in the historical, not for profit, heritage, genealogical and garden aspects of the Cemetery.
