Cataraqui Cemetery - Heritage Site
The Cataraqui Cemetery is still working closely with City of Kingston planners on a by-law that would designate the Cemetery as a Heritage Site under Ontario Provincial legislation. Ontario Heritage Site Designation, coupled with our recent recognition as a National Historic Site of Canada, would protect the cultural heritage and historical interests of our community with respect to our 210 year old cemetery. With regard to this exciting prospect, we expect to have more news to pass along in the first part of 2012. For individuals that are interested in becoming involved with cemetery history, cultural heritage and horticultural projects or issues, we welcome you to become a member of the newly formed Cataraqui Cemetery Heritage Society. As an organization independent of the Cemetery, the Society encourages public interest in all topics and issues involving Kingston's newest National Historic Site of Canada, Cataraqui Cemetery.
