Traditional/Casket Interments
Through wise land management, land acquisitions and landscape planning since 1850, Cataraqui Cemetery’s unique environment continues to accommodate and offer existing and new families options for their choice of traditional interment. With the development of new sections and planning strategies, Cataraqui Cemetery maintains an offering of traditional graves even after 160 years of operation. Simply, Cataraqui Cemetery is not full. With interment rights assigned to single or multiple graves, families have the opportunity to combine cremation interments with traditional interments. Typically memorialized with an upright monument (available for purchase at Cataraqui Cemetery) families gain the opportunity to place a highly visible, artistically personalized lasting memorial. Casket or "outer" vaults and liners are available and may be pre-arranged by speaking to our Family Services Representatives. Though vaults and liners are not required by law in Ontario cemeteries or at Cataraqui Cemetery, we offer a selection for families who recognize the benefit of these products. You are welcome to contact us regarding any concerns or questions you may have regarding traditional burials and arrangements.
Single
Single graves are available throughout the cemetery in new or old sections. Family Services Representatives will always assist families by providing a tour of the Cemetery so that the benefits of each section can be demonstrated and explained. We will ensure that you are comfortable with your selection. We will even explain what is involved in selecting the most appropriate monument or marker. Contact us for more information.
Double
Double graves are typically available side by side at Cataraqui Cemetery. Traditionally intended to accommodate side by side casket interments, double graves remain popular options. Like single graves, they are available throughout the cemetery. Double graves typically will allow for a larger upright monument and our Family Services Representatives are available to assist in the monument selection. Please note that Cataraqui Cemetery does not offer “double depth” graves. Contact us for more information.
Family / Group
Like times of old, Family plots continue to be available for purchase. Large or multi-generation families may purchase plots at Cataraqui Cemetery. The plots provide peace of mind to you or your family with the knowledge that they and future generation have been provided for. Let us know what your needs are and we will be happy to assist you by guiding you through the process so that you completely comfortable with your selection. If your family or previous generations have already reserved a family plot at Cataraqui Cemetery, only the person named on the official Cataraqui Cemetery Certificate of Interment Rights may authorize any and all interments. If you are unsure if you are able to authorize an interment in and old family plot or require more information about purchasing a family plot, contact us for assistance.
Mausoleums
A mausoleum is an external free-standing structure constructed as a monument enclosing an interment space or burial chamber intended for a traditional burial. Mausoleums at Cataraqui Cemetery are available upon request. Often beautifully designed and well crafted, they are impressive fixtures to our landscape suiting the burial customs and preferences of many families.
