The Cataraqui Cemetery Crematorium.
The Cataraqui Cemetery has provided the community with cremation services for over 30 years. To date, we have served over 15,000 families in a compassionate, respectful and professional manner. Cremation is a choice that may require some thought. Any questions or concerns regarding our cremation services, the process and how to make arrangements can be answered by one of our Family Services Representatives. Like many of our services, families have the opportunity of pre-arranging cremation services and urns with us. By pre-arranging with The Cataraqui Cemetery Crematorium, families will be assured the peace of mind in knowing that their arrangements are secured with a trusted cemetery that has a long tradition of serving families in need since 1850.
All funeral homes and families have access to our cremation services. You or your loved one do not have to be interred at Cataraqui Cemetery in order to arrange the services of our crematorium. Additionally, families may request that their funeral director, regardless of the funeral home, use our services. The crematorium is owned by the not for profit Cemetery and provides a valuable service to the Interment Rights Holders as well as the community. Our crematorium provides a source of additional revenue so that we may continue the operation and care for our historic public cemetery. We do not maximize profits for investors. We help families. If supporting a not for profit is important to you, then speak to us or your funeral director about arranging our services.
Our Cremation Service. Our crematorium uses the method of reducing the body of the deceased to ashes through a process of high temperature. The remaining ashes of the loved one are carefully handled and respectfully placed into the selected receptacle, typically an urn of varying designs. The cremation is recorded as per Ontario Provincial legislation and is then made available for release to the authorized individual (typically an authorized family member or the funeral director) for return to the family or interment. With advanced notice, families may choose to schedule a witnessing. We are always mindful and sensitive about the care that you or your loved one deserve.
Urn Selection. In recognizing the need to better serve families, The Cataraqui Cemetery offers a large selection of urns in various styles, sizes and decors to choose from. We offer quality urns at competitive prices. Before purchasing or arranging for an urn elsewhere, remember that by selecting an urn with our Family Services Representatives, families are assured the urn is available at the crematorium at the time of need. We can help families avoid potentially upsetting instances if the crematorium has the urn on site. As added value, we will also verify with our families that the selected urn is appropriate for the chosen type of interment.
