Burial Vaults

Burial vaults are sturdy outer boxes in which a casket or cremation urn is placed for traditional earth burial.  They are also intended to reduce the likelihood of the soil sinking on the interment site after a burial.  Vaults are typically made of concrete and unlike a burial liner, which only covers the top and sides of the casket, a vault is completely enclosed.

The Cataraqui Cemetery requires very little notice to prepare a vault on site for a scheduled interment.  Like many of the services and products we offer, burial vaults can be pre-arranged as part of a pre-need cemetery program.  Families are welcome to contact our Family Services Representatives to learn more about the advantages of our burial vault services as well as the styles and options we have available.

It is important to note that The Cataraqui Cemetery does not require families to supply a burial vault unless interment rights are being exercised within a double depth grave.  Should a funeral home recommend the  purchase of a burial vault for a traditional casket or cremation as part of a pre-arranged or at need funeral package, please contact The Cataraqui Cemetery for confirmation and verification of allowable size and if any restrictions may apply.
