Flower Programs
In keeping with the natural landscaping and the beauty of Cataraqui Cemetery's garden environment, we encourage families to plant a flower garden at the base of their upright monument. We fully understand the time, effort and resources needed to keep the small garden vibrant and healthy. As families move away from Kingston or find that they have less and less available time, it can become increasingly difficult for them to attend the demands of maintaining the life affirming gardens that have been planted in memory of their loved ones.
The Cataraqui Cemetery offers a Perpetual Flower Program to families who wish to have a garden but cannot attend to one on a regular basis. Under the supervision of our full time horticulturalist, a flower bed will be created, planted and cared for by our cemetery grounds staff. The service we provide will ensure that the beds are cared for and every year and replanted if required. With advice from our horticulturalist, families may select from a wide range of annuals and/or perennials creating an ideal garden. We will routinely care, water and trim around the beds, giving them the attention so that the bed provides a living tribute for your loved one(s). Cataraqui Cemetery, is recognized locally and nationally for the gardens and landscape features. We are most proud of our place in history as we continue to be one of Canada's earliest and longest serving rural reform garden cemeteries. Contact us to arrange for a consultation and pricing.
Families and visitors have the option to maintain their own flower beds and plantings with an understanding that they are to be regularly maintained(in some instances weekly) and trimmed yearly so that they are in keeping with “The By-Laws of The Cataraqui Cemetery” and the overall visual appeal of the Cemetery. In advance of planting, we encourage lot owners and visitors to seek our advice at the Cemetery Office so that they are ensured a healthy and suitable flower bed in the proper location.
