We sadly announce the passing of our much loved father, Austin (Ozzie) Candy. He passed away peacefully at the age of 96, at St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital, Kingston, ON. Austin was born in London, England, the only child of Lionel & Rose Candy, grandson of Sir Edward Townshend Candy and Lady Constance Mary Candy. Austin’s parents moved to Calgary when he was a baby. He graduated from high school in Calgary and joined the RCAF for a short time, later joining the RCMP as a radio operator & was stationed on the HMS ‘ADVERSUS’.After leaving the RCMP, he joined TCA in Winnipeg as a flight dispatcher for the new airline. He married his wife (of 68 years) Irene Lewis (a nurse & TCA stewardess) in Winnipeg. While employed at TCA, later Air Canada. They lived in Toronto, Montreal, Moncton & Vancouver (where he retired).

Austin & Irene lived in six of Canada’s provinces & have travelled the world for both work & pleasure. Austin has always enjoyed ‘ham radio’ & talked to all corners of the world, establishing lifelong friends. Austin’s leisure time was spent fishing playing tennis, golfing, boating, gardening & walking. He was also a founding member & past master of Meridien Lodge in Montreal, as well as a Shriner. On retirement, he volunteered as a ‘Green Coat’ at Vancouver airport assisting travellers.
